Summary

Florence, Italy, the cradle of the Renaissance, and famous for some of the world's most celebrated artists, architects and scientists. Today it remains a vibrant city rich in culture, heritage and craft. Where artisans still flourish and traditions from centuries ago are found in their workshops, kitchens and homes. It is here we start our sojourn and spend three days delving into its treasures.

We will eat with the locals, sip on aperitivo, explore the central market and cook with a local chef. We will discover the renaissance art of the lesser-known female artists as we visit the Vasari corridor. In the Oltrano neighborhood we will learn from the resident artisans about their vital work to maintain their hand made craft.

From the city we travel south through Chianti, a land of agriculture, wine production and rich heritage. Visiting with our friends along the way, learning about their lives and their land, we will encounter women artisans such as Nora the cashmere goat farmer or Diana the Chianti Classico winemaker. The road less travelled will lead us to our country house in the heart of Crete Senesi where we enjoy the warmth and hospitality of our Italian hosts at Podere Salicotto.

From here we explore the towns of southern Tuscany and the tapestry of artisans who call this area home. This is the land of spectacular scenery, stunning medial villages and a rich culinary tradition for local seasonal ingredients. We will visit some iconic Tuscan towns as well as some on the path less trodden.

Our sojourn meanders with new experiences every day. With hands on lessons in traditional food making, tasting world famous wines, learning about Pecorino cheese production, or the work of leather and ceramics artisans. Each encounter with our local experts will be an authentic and memorable experience.
